Provisional European F1 calendar leaked; publication expected on Monday

by

In all probability there will be two Grands Prix of Great Britain in 2020. Formula 1 is scheduled to race the first two weekends of August at the Silverstone circuit. The condition is still that the British government relaxes the quarantine restrictions, but there is good hope for that.

The back-to-back weekend should first take place on 19 July/26 July or 26 July/02 August, but this does not seem to be possible after all. Because of this it was decided to travel to Hungary first after the Austrian Grand Prix, so Great Britain will have a bit more time to get ready for the arrival of the pinnacle of motorsport.

Two weekends reserved

Premier Boris Johnson would like to see the GPs continue and would be in talks with Formula 1. That has given the organisation of the British GP the confidence to reserve 02 and 09 August for Formula 1. As a result, the Silverstone Classic event will move to another date.

The intention is to fly directly from Great Britain to Spain, to drive on the Barcelona Circuit on August 16th. The Grands Prix of Belgium and Italy are still on their original date. Formula 1 is also under discussion in Hockenheim, but Motorsport.com considers them as a 'reserve' in case another Grand Prix in Europe will not be able to take place.

Monday probably announcement

The teams would all have been sent the European calendar for the 2020 World Championship below and the expectation is that Monday will be the final schedule for the first GP's of next season. An agenda for the other races will only be revealed at a later date.
