West Brom star sends Leeds United a Championship title warning

Even now, during the lockdown, Albion and Leeds remain six and seven points clear respectively of third placed Fulham, with nine matches still pencilled in to play

West Brom and Leeds United have both been applauded for publicly outlining their intentions to complete their respective promotion pushes out on the pitch, rather than via a points per game average.

And Albion skipper Jake Livermore has fuelled the Championship fire further by insisting that he and his Baggies teammates are still aiming for the title.

Albion and Leeds have dominated proceedings at the top of the league table this season, with neither of them being removed by the chasing pack at any point since November.

Even now, during the lockdown, they remain six and seven points clear respectively of third placed Fulham, with nine matches still pencilled in to play.

With group training returning this week and the likelihood of matches being completed behind closed doors in the coming weeks growing, Livermore has been left impressed by how fit his teammates have kept themselves in challenging conditions while isolating at home.

Even now, the idea of lifting themselves over the line and completing their season long ambition remains at the forefront of the minds of the squad and coaching staff.

Captain Livermore, who has enjoyed a fabulous season on an individual level, sees the league title well within the club’s reach, too - they currently trail Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds by just a single point.

“It’s been a difficult period for everyone in terms of football,” Livermore told WBA TV. “I do feel for clubs who will all have their own agendas as to how it settles, but we want to eradicate as many arguments as we can and settle it out on the pitch.

“Each and every team will have their own agenda but we want to finish top and get promoted. That’s what we set out to do.

"Obviously, everyone’s safety will be the most important thing but we have been training for the last seven weeks in the hope of having this opportunity to play again and that’s what we want to do.

“I don’t think it’s a case of having any more motivation. I don’t think the boys could have any more because they have been flat out since the start of the season. Our goal was to finish the season promoted and that is what we still want to achieve.

“The boys have stayed in touch with our WhatsApp group and everyone has been brilliant. You can tell that by the shape they have come back in.”
