Officers attacked and ‘breathed on’ following ‘drug-fuelled’ party in Walsall

A 23-year-old was charged two counts of assault of a police officer and obstructing an officer following the incident in Eagleworks Drive

Two officers were attacked in a coronavirus-related assault while trying to break up a ‘drug-fuelled’ party.

Police called a house party in Eagleworks Drive, Walsall, yesterday morning (May 26).

It is believed that drugs were being consumed at the address.

Just after 10am, the officers were assaulted and "breathed on" while trying to arrest one of the party-goers. The offender had alleged that he was infected with Covid-19.

A 23-year-old has been arrested and charged with two counts of assault of a police officer and obstructing an officer after being arrested in connection with the incident.

Alan Humpage, a factory worker, was scheduled to appear in court today (May 27).

The West Midlands Police Force Response team tweeted: “Two officers from E unit Walsall dealt with a male refusing to leave a house after a drug-fuelled party. He then made comments about Covid-19 and breathed in their faces.

“He then struggled, was arrested, charged and remanded to court today.”

A spokesman for West Midlands Police added: “Alan Humpage, of Merton Court, Walsall was charged with two counts of assault of a police officer and obstructing an officer after being arrested near to Eagleworks Drive in Walsall just before 10am yesterday (May 26).

“The 23-year-old factory worker was due to appear at Wolverhampton Magistrates Court today (May 27).”
