‘Bang – one punch. Gone’ - The time Robbie Keane floored Edgar Davids in training

by

Ex Tottenham midfielder Jamie O’Hara has recalled the time former Republic of Ireland captain Robbie Keane floored new signing Edgar Davids with a punch in a training session.

Davids joined Spurs in August 2005 on a free transfer after Inter Milan terminated his three-year contract after a single season, with the Dutchman spending 18 successful months with the club before returning to Ajax for a second spell with the Dutch side.

Having also enjoyed successful spells with Barcelona, Juventus, Milan and Ajax, Davids was seen a huge coup for the London side, but the tenacious midfieler's early days with club were far from smooth as he clashed with striker Robbie Keane in one of his first training sessions with his new team.

With a Champions League winners medal in his back pocket, Davids rocked up to WHite Hart Lane thinking he was the 'bees knees', according to ex Tottenham midfielder Jamie O’Hara.

But Davids' attitude did not sit well with striker Robbie Keane, who was the 'main man' at the club, with the then-Ireland quickly putting the midfielder in his place.

Speaking on his talkSPORT’s Sports Breakfast show, O’Hara revealed: “I tell you who had a bit about him – Robbie Keane. “I remember a story with him and Edgar Davids.

“We were at training and Davids came in from Inter Milan and he thought he was the bee’s knees. He thought he was the guy and the main man and everything, but everyone realised Robbie Keane was the main guy at Tottenham at that time.

“I remember him giving it to Keano in training and they were having a barney, and I think he tried to step to Robbie Keane and say something – and Keano just sparked him, bosh!

“He just went, bang – one punch. Gone.

“Then Davids has just picked himself up and walked off – and that was it.

“He came in the next day like, ‘morning, Robbie…’

“Everyone knew – you don’t mess with Keano. He had that thing about him that if he switched he would put you straight out.”
