It’s official! NSAC approves UFC return to Las Vegas on May 30

by

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) today (Weds., May 27) received the green light for its return to Las Vegas, as Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) passed a unanimous vote to allow combat sports to once again be held in “Sin City.”

As of this writing, UFC has been cleared to stage two upcoming events: UFC on ESPN 9 on May 30 and UFC 250 on June 6, both of which will be held without an audience. In addition, the promotion must adhere to specific (and more stringent) COVID-19 protocols.

“According to protocols passed by the NAC, contact tracing for any positive tests at event ‘Must be provided at the expense of the promoter and in conjunction with the SNHD for any individual whose test results are positive’,” veteran sports reporter Adam Hill wrote on Twitter. “Positives after the event appear to be a different story.”

UFC on ESPN 9 will be headlined by the welterweight showdown between Tyron Woodley and Gilbert Burns. UFC 250, meanwhile, gives pay-per-view (PPV) duties to women’s featherweight champion Amanda Nunes, who puts her title on the line against Felicia Spencer.
