2 More Covid-19 Deaths In Valley, J&K Toll Rises To 26

162 More Test Covid-19 Positive 

Srinagar-  Two more people have died due to novel coronavirus in Kashmir Valley, officials said on Wednesday. These fatalities take the death toll due to the disease in the Jammu and Kashmir to 26—23 in Valley and 3 in Jammu.

One among the victims includes a 70-year-old man from Sarnal Anantnag who died yesterday at GMC Anantnag and report came out positive posthumously, sources said. The other is a 55-year-old resident of Fateh Kadal Srinagar who had tested positive earlier this month and ultimately died of cardiac arrest, they said.

Principal GMC Anantnag, Dr Showkat Jeelani, said that septuagenarian man from Sarnal with underlying ailments like pneumonia was admitted to the hospital on May 25. “He died yesterday and his sample was taken while in hospital which came out to be positive today,” he added. he said that body was detained at mortuary and would be handed over as per the Covid-19 protocol.

Meanwhile, a 55-year-old man from Fateh Kadal area of Srinagar, who had tested positive for coronavirus died at Chest Diseases (CD) hospital, officials said.

The officials said the patient was shifted to the CD hospital from SICU SMHS on May 18 as an operated case of exploratory laparotomy with appendicectomy after testing positive for coronavirus.

Exploratory laparotomy is surgery to open up the abdomen to find the cause of problems such as belly pain or bleeding that testing could not diagnose. Appendicectomy is a surgical procedure to remove the appendix from the abdomen

The patient’s health was improving and was hemodynamically stable and maintaining saturation without oxygen, the officials said.

However, he developed sudden cardiac arrest around 4 pm on Wednesday, they added.

The man was immediately intubated, coupled to a ventilator and resuscitated but he developed another cardiac arrest after which he could not be revived, the officials said.

With these fatalities, the death toll due to the virus upto 26 in J&K. So far Srinagar district has highest number of the fatalities—7 followed by Anantnag (5), Baramulla and Kulgam with four deaths while Budgam and Jammu have two each and one death each has been reported from Bandipora and Udhampur. 162 More Test Covid-19 Positive 

Meanwhile Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday recorded biggest ever daily spike coronavirus cases as 162 more people tested Covid-19 positive, taking the total number of cases across the Union Territory to 1921, officials said.

“162 new COVID-19 cases were detected in J&K. While 124 of them are from Kashmir, 38 are from Jammu,” the officials said.

Among fresh cases, 27 cases were reported from Kulgam, 26 from Kupwara, 21 from Pulwama, 20 from Srinagar, 12 from Shopian,11 each from Udhampur & Poonch,10 from Baramulla, four each from Anantnag & Jammu, three each from Reasi, Samba & Kathua, two each from  Bandipora, Budgam & Rajouri and one from Ramban, they said.

They said that 21 patients recovered and were discharged from different hospitals.

The number of confirmed cases has now reached 1,921, out of which 1,535 are in Kashmir, while 386 are in Jammu, the officials said.

There are 1041 active cases of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in J&K — 753 in Kashmir and 288 in Jammu — and 854 (759 from Kashmir and 95 from Jammu) patients have recovered, according to officials.

The J&K has witnessed 26 COVID-19 (23 from Kashmir, 3 from Jammu) deaths so far, including the two that took place on Wednesday.
