MCA apex council to meet on June 1, Lalchand Rajput tipped for CIC
by Vijay TagoreThe Apex Council of the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) will meet on June 1. The main item of the agenda is to appoint an adhoc Cricket Advisory Committee (CIC) and Mirror understands that Lalchand Rajput is the favourite to take over.
Besides, the appointment of the CIC, the meeting will take up two other topics as well – the finalisation of the date for the Annual General Meeting (AGM) and planning for the association’s 2020-21 season. The domestic season will largely depend on the plan of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) but MCA’s own tournaments, it is being felt, will be delayed.
Coming back to the CIC, the MCA is understood to be contemplating approaching former Indian cricketers like Sameer Dighe and Raju Kulkarni besides Rajput. Salil Ankola also is also a potential candidate and it will depend on how many former players it will appoint. It could be somewhere between three and five.
The CIC, ideally, will have to be appointed by the AGM but in view of the delay in the AGM, the apex council will make the announcement but will call it an adhoc committee. The CIC will be made permanent after an endorsement from the AGM.
The notices for the meeting were sent yesterday and it will be held via zoom call at 12.30 pm on June 1.
