A former police officer battered a disabled 73 year-old at a care home he owns, then declared ‘I’ll get away with it,’ police claim. David Howard Jr, 45, reportedly boasted he would never face justice after he allegedly attacked his victim in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on May 11.

The assault at the Place For Miracles Living Center left the elderly man suffering a brain bleed and fractures to his face and other injuries which left bruises and required stapling. Howard reportedly hurled water at the man, before stomping on his head and saying: ‘I told you (expletive), I will kill you. I will beat the (expletive) out of you, and get away with it because I am a police officer.’

After the attack, a carer who worked with the victim reported what had happened to police. That carer originally called Howard to the home after the victim, who has developmental disabilities, became combative and began throwing feces.

The resident said a man he knew as Michael attacked him. Investigators believe ‘Michael’ to be Howard, and have insisted he will face the full force of the law.

Elder abuse lawyer Michael Sperling told Fox6: ‘Whether he’s a police officer or whether he’s not, if proven, the allegations are pretty awful. The allegations of how ferocious it was makes it unusual.’ He said the success of prosecutors’ case would hinge on proving the intent behind Howard’s alleged abuse of the elderly man.

Howard owns two other group homes in Milwaukee, and faces a charge of elder abuse. He is free on $10,000 bond ahead of his next court appearance.
