'Animal abuser' arrested for 'kicking chicken like a football player'

An alleged animal abuser is behind bars after he kicked a chicken like ‘a football player would kick a field goal,’ police said.

Nicholas Chew, 43, is accused of kicking the chicken during a fight with his girlfriend on March 22 in Monroe County, Florida. His girlfriend later called police after she feared the bird’s leg was broken.

Chew reportedly admitted to police that he kicked the chicken and said it was because he was upset with the noises the bird was making, according to police.

A witness told authorities that Chew kicked the bird in a way resembling a football field goal, which is generally done by taking a running start to generate maximum force.

The bird was described as a Rhode Island Red chicken named Huhn. It was found standing on one leg and was taken to the animal hospital where a veterinarian determined that it had broken four ribs, according to police, Click Orlando reported

Huhn has reportedly been reunited with it’s owner, who has decided to press charges against Chew, although it is unclear who owns the bird.

Chew was subsequently arrested on Monday and now faces one charge of animal cruelty.
