Tom Cruise enlists director Doug Liman to shoot upcoming movie together in space

by

Travelling between countries might be up in the air for now, but it looks like plans to head into space haven’t been put on the backburner for Tom Cruise and his upcoming movie.

According to Deadline, Tom has enlisted Edge Of Tomorrow director Doug Liman to direct his upcoming project which will be shot in space.

The as-yet untitled project is currently being mounted independently and involves Elon Musk’s SpaceX and NASA, according to Deadline.

Tom and Doug have worked together on Edge Of Tomorrow as well as American Made, so they’ll no doubt be perfectly comfortable spending plenty of time together in space, too.

Doug has reportedly written the script and plans to produce it alongside Tom, with the actor planning to travel into space to shoot the movie.

While most movie’s require an element of preparation for the actors, shooting in space would require some serious training for Tom to be able to withstand an entire outer space flight.

If they manage to pull it off, it will definitely be a first of its kind – not just globally, but intergalactically by the sounds of it.

NASA confirmed its involvement in the project after the first rumours of the film surfaced, for which they will work closely with SpaceX.

SpaceX was founded in 2002 by Elon who aimed to reduce the cost of travel to space to enable further exploration of Mars.

We know there will be restrictions and quarantines once travel resumes in earnest following the coronavirus pandemic, so travelling out to space could be a good way for Tom to circumvent the restrictions by avoiding all people.

Filming for his most recent project, Mission Impossible 7, was recently halted due to the pandemic and the social distancing measures that had to be brought in.
