Truth about rumours McDonald's is reopening Liverpool sites this week

McDonald’s fans have been eagerly anticipating news of when Liverpool’s restaurants will reopen.

The fast food chain closed its doors on March 23 to prevent the spread of coronavirus, and vowed it would not reopen until it was “safe for us to reopen”.

Over the last few days many McDonald’s fans have been duped into thinking restaurants across the city would reopen on many different dates by fake photos on Twitter.

The posts, which replicate the designs used by McDonald’s in its coronavirus updates, suggest that Liverpool sites including Great Homer Street and Stonedale Retail Park are reopening much sooner than they actually are.

This is not the first time McDonald’s fans have been tricked by fake posts since it closed restaurants, with many believing an April Fool’s joke which suggested it would reopen on April 6.

In the last several weeks McDonald’s has reopened restaurants slowly, and today, May 27, announced that it would open all drive-thrus by June 4 .

From next week, McDonald’s will open 975 more branches to the public, providing customers can keep in line with social distancing and safety guidelines, including hundreds of branches in major cities in the North of England.

This will take the total to 1,019 McDonald’s restaurants open in the UK.

Restaurants will start reopening on June 4 from 11am, in line with government guidelines and with strict social distancing measures in place.

One order will be allowed per car and purchases will be capped at £25.

In car parks, dividers will be in place, while security teams will patrol zones to ensure visitors comply with safety laws.

In stores, perspex screens have been fitted while all employees will have to carry out temperature checks on arrival.

There will also be a limited menu, with breakfast scrapped for the foreseeable future due to limited staff members.
