Nicolas Tagliafico on Chelsea's radar as Blues alerted to cut-price transfer

by

Chelsea have been alerted to a potential cut price deal for Ajax full back Nicolas Tagliafico.

The Blues are in the market for a new left-back this summer and are watching developments closely as Tagliafico would be available for around £22million.

Argentina international Tagliafico, 27, has made no secret of his desire to move to the Premier League in the future.

And it is understood there is an agreement with Ajax that he can go if someone matches the asking price.

Ajax chief executive Edwin van der Sar has already confirmed the Dutch club may have to sell some of their first teamers this summer.

There was also an agreement last summer when Tagliafico decided to stay that if he remained at the club for another 12 months then they would not stand in his way.

Chelsea are keen on a new left back as a potential replacement for Marcos Alonso but seem to have been priced out of a move for Leicester's England full back Ben Chilwell.

That is why a move for Tagliafico makes financial sense.

Additionally, he can play in both a back four and also as a wing back, while he has also captained his country.

Tagliafico has admitted recently that he would favour a move to the Premier League above either Spain or Italy.

Speaking earlier this month to Argentinian station Radio Continental, Tagliafico said: “Ajax it’s a great club, but as a player of course you dream of playing in the biggest leagues.

"And the Premier League is right now the most competitive one, a bit above La Liga and Serie A.”

Chelsea did make checks on Tagliafico before lockdown and now he may be even more attractive because of the financial implications of coronavirus.
