Mum shares hack to cut cake perfectly every time and it's blowing people's minds

Cutting a cake is serious business as any attempts to sneak away with the biggest slice is the kind of behaviour that leads to family feuds lasting years.

Being entrusted with dividing up the cake at parties and other special occasions is a big responsibility, and abusing the power to scrape a few extra toppings onto your plate is a big no-no.

Even if you navigate through the tricky mathematics of portioning it off, you're then forced to try and balance each slice on the narrow blade of the knife to get it to a plate without watching it all fall apart before your very eyes.

But one mum has come up with an ingenious way to make the whole job a lot easier, and it's had more than 5.5 million views since being posted to TikTok.

Rather than using a knife, the mum uses a pair of food tongs, flipping them around and pushing them down into the cake to cut the perfect triangle slice.

Gripping the two ends, she then lifts the piece of cake out with no mess or breakages, as her daughter captioned it: "My mum found a life hack."

Although the mum could not look less impressed by being filmed for the viral video, people in the comments said they were left 'mind blown' by the hack.

One said: "So my whole life was a lie, that was the right use for this tool."

A second commented: "Your mum lives in 2050 shhhessshhh."

A third added: "Genius!! Will use this one."

Another said: "Your mum is so fancy and I feel like she's one of those people who do the best stuff and act like it's nothing. I love her."
