'I tried Burger King's new Social Distancing Whopper and it made my eyes water'

by

Earlier this week, we saw that in Germany, Burger King had launched social distancing crowns, to ensure customers were keeping apart from one another.

But over in Italy the fast food chain has decided to try something a little different.

Italian Burger King restaurants have been selling a Social Distancing Whopper, which is packed with three times the usual amount of onions.

The idea is that the stench of onions on the person's breath after eating it will keep people far away from them.

It's yet to catch on in the UK, but one man in the US persuaded his local branch to create one for him and he filmed his reaction to trying it.

Sam E. Goldberg has been using his spare time during lockdown to start a new YouTube series called Respect The Chain.

It's a comedic food show, in which the 32-year-old is currently trying 'special pandemic menu items' from various chain restaurants.

The latest episode sees Sam, who is originally from New York, but is spending the pandemic with family in Florida, trying the unique Whopper.

Sitting in a Burger King restaurant, he explains in the video: "Did you know that the Burger King in Italy is currently offering what's called a Social Distancing Whopper?

"What they're doing in Italy is they are giving you three times the amount of onions that they would normally put on a regular Whopper."

He continued: "What we're doing today is we're recreating this Social Distancing Whopper that they have in Italy.

"We asked them specifically for three times the amount of onions on the Whopper."

Before tucking in, Sam admitted that he wasn't really looking forward to tasting the burger.

"I have a very bad feeling. It's probably going to taste very bad."

Biting into it, he pulls a face, before saying that it has "the most pungent taste" he's ever experienced in his life.

Speaking to Mirror Online, the Respect The Chain host spoke more about his decision to try the burger and gave us his official verdict on whether it could actually keep people away.

He said: "Currently [on the show] we are featuring the post pandemic reopening phase and were intrigued to try the Social Distancing Whopper from Burger King.

"We thought that it was a fun and innovative idea that hasn’t hit the states yet. We figured that we would 'guinea pig' it for America.

"There is no doubt in my mind that after eating the Social Distancing Whopper that others will stay at least six feet away maybe even 12 feet.

"The smell of the onions was enough to keep me away from me. The onions overwhelmed the taste of the whopper making my eyes tear and taste buds come alive."

He added: "In my opinion the Social Distancing Whopper is a success."

Well there you have it folks.
