Darian MacKinnon could be set for a sensational move to ambitious Drumchapel United in the SEVENTH tier of Scottish football.

The 34-year-old will be a free agent when his contract at Partick Thistle expires next week.

And Record Sport understands Drumchapel are among the clubs keen on snapping up the midfielder who ended an eight-year stay with Hamilton Accies to move to Thistle in January.

Drumchapel have moved out of the amateur ranks to join the newly-formed West of Scotland League at tier seven of the pyramid - two levels below the Lowland League.

And boss Adam Hopes has targeted MacKinnon as a marquee signing and a statement of intent as they look to begin climbing the ladder.

MacKinnon never turned professional until the age of 26 after moving from Clydebank in the juniors to Hamilton.

But he made 258 appearances for Accies, scoring 13 goals and becoming a fans’ favourite and club captain along the way.

After moving to Thistle in January MacKinnon made only three appearances as the Jags finished bottom of the Championship in the curtailed campaign.

Now he is mulling over his next move with Drumchapel preparing an offer they hope will convince him to drop down from the SPFL.
