Global Covid-19 Cases Rise To Over 56 Lakh, Death Toll Crosses 3.5 Lakh Mark

The total confirmed cases of Coronavirus infection on Wednesday (27 May) surged to over 56 lakh globally, while the fatalities due to the deadly virus, which originated in China’s Wuhan city, have increased to more than 3.5 lakh, according to the Johns Hopkins University.

Currently, the total number of cases stood at 5,606,925, while the death toll increased to 350,876, the University's Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) revealed in its latest update.

As many as 2,303,731 people have recovered from the disease globally, the CSSE data showed.

The United States has 1,681,418 confirmed cases and 98,929 deaths, both tallies account for the highest in the world.

In terms of cases, Brazil comes in second place with 391,222 infections.

This was followed by Russia (370,680), the UK (266,599), Spain (236,259), Italy (230,555), France (182,847), Germany (181,293), Turkey (158,762), India (151,767), Iran (139,511), and Peru (129,751), the CSSE figures showed.

Meanwhile, the UK ranked second after the US with 37,130 Covid-19 deaths, the highest fatalities in Europe.

The other countries with over 10,000 deaths are Italy (32,955), France (28,533), Spain (27,117), and Brazil (24,512).
