The Portuguese icon is somebody supporters around the world attempt to rile up from time to time, and often with jeers of his great rival Messi's name.

On a UEFA Champions League night in 2011, Dinamo Zagreb fans took this approach in trying to annoy Ronaldo, behaviour that infuriated the then-Los Blancos forward.

Asked after the game why he thought he was subjected to that kind of abuse from fans, the ex-Manchester United man made some controversial remarks.

"I think that because I am rich, handsome and a great player, people are envious of me," he said, according to The Guardian.

"I don't have any other explanation."

Ronaldo also ranted about the refereeing in that 1-0 win over Zagreb, but admitted three years later that he wished he had not made those infamous post-match comments.
