Officers assist woman giving birth at police station

- A pregnant woman was with her husband at a police station when she went into labour

- Before the arrival of the requested ambulance, the members assisted the woman to give birth

- She welcomed a healthy little baby girl into the world, thanks to the cops

- The ambulance that arrived after the woman welcomed her baby transported the mother and the newborn to a hospital

On Tuesday, members of the Putfontein SAPS station went beyond the call of duty when a woman went into labour.

The lady had been at the police station with her husband when she went into labour.

According to Arrive Alive's website, officers at the station took the woman to the trauma centre and immediately called for an ambulance.

However, before the ambulance could arrive, the cops helped the woman give birth to healthy little girl.

Help arrived afterwards and both mother and the newborn were transported to a hospital.

Putfontein Station Commander Lt Col Wellington Mathiane praised the members and thanked them for going the extra mile to help the woman.

In other new, the lawmaker representing Nnewi North constituency in Anambra state, Nonso Smart Okafor, has built a house for three childless widows who were living in a dilapidated mud house.

The lawmaker said he learnt about the ageing widows' terrible living condition earlier this year, adding that they suffered severe cold whenever it rained.

The widows, who were married to the same man, were given hope of comfort when Honourable Okafor visited them in the dilapidated mud house.

The lawmaker promised to change their situation and fulfilled the promise.

He said: "Women of their age live in houses built by their children but since they were unfortunate to have any, I decided to be a son to them. And what sons do for their mother I promised to do for them."

According to Honourable Okafor, the three-bedroom bungalow project started in March and was delivered in May.

The house has been commissioned and handed over to the three widows.
