Samsung and LG to Supply OLED Display Panels for iPhone 12 [Report]

by

Both Samsung and LG have landed orders to supply OLED display panels for the iPhone 12, reports The Elec.

According to the industry on the 26th, LG Display will supply up to 20 million OLED panels to the iPhone 12 series this year. Samsung Display will produce approximately 55 million units and LG Display will produce approximately 20 million units from approximately 75 million OLED panels in the iPhone 12 series.

LG is said to be supplying panels for the 6.1-inch iPhone 12 Max; whereas, Samsung will be supplying panels for the 5.4-inch iPhoen 12, 6.1-inch iPhone 12 Pro, and 6.7-inch iPhone 12 Pro Max.

Apple's order from LG is reportedly four times the 5 million it supplied last year. Notably, BOE is said to have struggled to supply panels for the iPhone 12, failing to obtain quality approval in the first half of year. It will try to receive approval in the second half of year but The Elec believes when it finally enters the supply chain it's highly likely that it will only supply refurbish (repair) panels.
