A young girl has snapped her spine after falling through a gap from a glass walkway and plunged nearly 200 feet at an outdoor theme park in China.

The 11-year-old child, who remains unidentified, missed a step and dropped to the ground after her safety harness 'fell off', said a government notice Monday.

The Chinese girl suffered multiple bone fractures as well as a concussion, according to local authorities. She has been in stable condition after being rushed to a hospital.

Tangli Happy Play Valley, the amusement park which had opened only three weeks ago, shut down the entertainment facility following the incident. Further investigation is underway.

The accident took place on Sunday at Leyou Valley in Dalian, Liaoning province of north-eastern China.

The glass bridge, named 'Bu Bu Jing Xin' or 'Startling Steps', was part of two plank trails spanning 280-metre between two mountains. They were said to be about 60 metres (197 feet) high, according to a social media post from the outdoor park.

The young girl was said to accidentally fall through a gap between the steps despite being buckled with safety belts.

A witness, who was also crossing the swinging bridge, told the local press that the protection gears did not seem very secured.

'I was walking towards this little girl. She was in the middle of the bridge,' the unnamed visitor told Pear Video.

'She suddenly missed a step and fell through the gap.

'The safety belts she was wearing did not support or hold her at all,' the tourist added.

'She dropped to the ground straight away. There was a big bang.'
