by

Mumbai: An under-trial was found hanging in his prison cell at the Taloja jail early on Wednesday morning in what appears to be a suicide.

Jail sources said that 40-year-old inmate Balu Baburao Khadsinghe was found hanging by a bedsheet in one of the special cells of the prison hospital at around 6 am.

Inspector General of Police (IGP), Prisons, Deepak Pandey told Mirror Online that Khadsinghe had four criminal cases registered against him in the past. He was last arrested by the Thane railway police in a murder and arms act case and lodged at the Kalyan jail. He had been shifted to the Taloja prisons in November last year on administrative grounds.

While the body has been sent for post mortem, an inquiry has been ordered into the incident, Pandey added.
