COVID-19: Here are the highlights of May 27
by Ria SharmaIndia's COVID-19 count has reached 1,51,767 with 6,387 new cases reported in the last 24 hours, said the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Wednesday.
According to the Ministry, 170 people also died due to the infection in the last 24 hours. So far, a total of 4,337 deaths have taken place across the country.
Maharashtra continues to be the worst affected state in the country and the current count of COVID-19 patients in Maharashtra is 56,948, after 2,190 patients were identified as positive on Wednesday.
A total of 1, 044 new cases were reported in Mumbai, taking its overall count to 33,835 . Thirty-two people succumbed to the infection in Mumbai today.

Dharavi reports 18 new cases
In a major relief for Mumbai, only 18 COVID-19 positive cases were reported in Dharavi on Wednesday. It is indeed a silver lining, though believed to be temporary. A senior BMC official said that the new cases were found in Mukund Nagar, Kumbharwada, Azad Nagar, Dharavi Cross Road, and some other localities of Dharavi. A total of 1,639 cases have been reported in Dharavi so far.
MVA: Fadnavis should play a role in supporting the government, not in destabilising it
Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray-led Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) on Wednesday launched a scathing attack on Opposition BJP and refuted all the claims made by Devendra Fadnavis over money given by the Centre to the state. The MVA countered the allegation in a joint press conference addressed by the coalition leaders - Shiv Sena's Anil Parab, NCP's Jayant Patil, and Congress' Balasaheb Thorat.
Maharashtra Governor lauds Sonu Sood
Governor of Maharashtra Bhagat Singh Koshyari on Wednesday lauded actor Sonu Sood for helping stranded migrant labourers to return to their native places. The governor complimented the actor over a phone call and also posted the information on Twitter.
Woman gives birth to baby onboard Shramik Special train
A woman on board a Shramik Special train gave birth to a baby boy at Ratlam railway station on Wednesday. Pooja Devi, who was travelling from Surat to Pratapgarh, complained of labour pain after which a co-passenger tweeted to Railways of her condition seeking help. The train was then halted at Ratlam railway station and Railway doctor Ankita Mehta attended to her and helped her deliver the baby.
KDMC reports 57 new COVID-19 cases
Kalyan and Dombivli reported 57 new coronavirus positive cases on Wednesday. So far, 26 patients have also lost their lives. 286 people have also been cured and discharged from the hospitals till Wednesday.
Contract workers to get benefit of Rs 50 lakh special insurance scheme
In a significant order which can impact thousands of workers employed under civic or state bodies but through a contractor, and handling coronavirus related work directly, the Bombay High Court has directed that the benefit of additional per day allowance and the Special Insurance Scheme of Rs 50 lakh be passed on these workers just like the 'regular' workers.
Quarantine stamp leaves 5 of a Surat family with blisters
In what appears to be the first reported case of an allergic reaction to the ink of the home quarantine stamp, five of six members of an extended family who travelled from Junagadh to Surat by road developed rashes on their skin, followed by a burning sensation.
E-pass not required for travellers moving in/out of Mumbai airport
The Mumbai police has decided to allow passenger/s moving to and from the Mumbai airport to travel without an e-pass. However, the passenger has to carry the valid boarding pass along with him/ her during the journey, along with other identity proof which can be produced on demand during security checks on roads.
Message about Mumbai, Pune to be under Military Lockdown is fake, clarifies Mumbai Police
For the second time in less than a month, a message about Military lockdown in two key cities of Maharashtra has found its way into WhatsApp groups and social media platforms. However, the Mumbai police refuted the claim asking people not to believe in it.
