The company's success means it is expanding down the A50

Delicious doughnuts that have put smiles on the faces of Love Island contestants, fashionistas and even members of the Royal family, will now be available in Uttoxeter - and delivered straight to your door.

Residents with a sweet tooth will be able to enjoy one of the large treats after Derby-based Project D, is expanding its service into Stoke and Uttoxeter, announced plans to deliver doughnuts straight to peoples doors.

The company, which has almost 24,000 followers on Instagram, changes the flavours of its doughnuts every week and also offers a vegan range, which are already enjoyed by shoppers in Burton and Derby.

When lockdown began the company furloughed its staff but, after changing the business model to a home delivery service, bosses have brought staff back to work and recruited even more workers.

Project D’s co-owner, Jacob Watts, said: "Since lockdown began, we've been inundated with requests for doughnuts.

"I think that now, more than ever before, people need a sweet treat to cheer them up.

"We were getting a huge number of requests from people living in Stoke asking us to start delivering in their area, so we decided to head up the A50.

"We're thrilled with the response we are getting and our doughnuts seem to be as popular in the north of the county as they have been nearer to home.

"It's very exciting for us as a business and when lockdown is over we will look at setting up a more permanent home in the town centre."

Project D has been established for 12 months and began by selling doughnuts at food events and festivals across the Midlands, as well as fulfilling orders for corporate events and one-off commissions.

Among the company’s most popular creations is the Simpsons inspired Homer, a ring doughnut with pink icing and sprinkles; the Biscoff with a caramel base and blended Lotus Biscoff crumb; and the Red Velvet, a white chocolate base, dipped in red velvet cake with lashing of white chocolate.

The highlight of the company’s first year was being asked to create 60 doughnuts decorated with royal crests for Windsor Castle.

Mr Watts said: "We'll never know if the Queen tried them, but we like to think Harry and Meghan might have shared one before they left for America, the home of doughnuts.

"We've had an incredible 12 months and thanks to the power of social media we're starting to get requests from across the UK."

The doughnuts are delivered in boxes which are biodegradable and compostable, cost £11 a box, plus delivery.T
