A woman is set to appear in court after a charity box containing £400 was stolen at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham's Cancer Centre.

West Midlands Police says it has charged a 42-year-old woman after it had emerged that the contents of a charity box had been stolen.

Approximately £400 was inside the box when the lid was allegedly forced open and emptied. The theft is alleged to have took place at about 10pm on Wednesday (May 20).

Emma Andrews, of Leehurst Crescent, Harborne, has been charged with burglary and remanded to appear before Birmingham Magistrates Court tomorrow (Thursday 28 May).

West Midlands Police i ssued a statement with regards to the theft.

The statement said: "We've charged a 42-year-old woman after the contents of a charity box were stolen at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham's Cancer Centre.

"It is alleged that approximately £400 was inside the box when the lid was forced open and it was emptied at about 10pm on Wednesday 20 May.

"Emma Andrews, of Leehurst Crescent, Harborne, has been charged with burglary and remanded to appear before Birmingham Magistrates Court tomorrow (Thursday 28 May)."
