Man in hospital after aircraft hits power line in Kerry

A man is being treated in hospital after his microlight aircraft crashed into a 10,000-volt power line in Co Kerry.

The incident happened just after 1 o'clock this afternoon.

It's understood the man, who is believed to be aged in his 50s and from Co Cork, was flying alone at the time.

He has been taken to University Hopsital Kerry for treatment. His injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

GardaĆ­ are at the scene and an investigation is underway. A team is also enroute from the Department of Transport's Air Accident Investigation Unit and they will conduct a separate investigation.

Power supply to the area has been disrupted and ESB technicians are currently working to repair the fault.
