WATCH: Strut with Pride! Black Country family stage alternative parade in their street

A Black Country family have hosted their own LGBTQ Pride parade, after it was announced Birmingham Pride has been cancelled due to Covid-19.

Lee Walker, 28, hispartner Fern Eglington, 25, her brother Jme, 32 and Lee's son Ethan Hill, eight, who all live in Ivyhouse Lane, Coseley, decided to throw their own celebration to lift people's spirits during the lockdown.

The family distributed leaflets to neighbours to let them know they were planning the street celebration, with a number of them joining in the fun by dressing up the fronts of their homes.

The Pride parade took place on Sunday afternoon, and saw the whole family dress up in colourful outfits and wave their rainbow LGBTQ flags as they strutted their stuff along the street.

Lee said: "We wanted to do something to mark Pride seeing it had been cancelled.

"All of the neighbours loved the parade, they were out clapping us, banging pots and pans and some of them were blowing whistles for us. We also let off our own homing pigeons.

"We just wanted to do help cheer people up and put a smile on their faces and I think we managed that."

The family even decked out their cars, which led the procession, with rainbow flags and Pride 2020 logos.

Birmingham Pride 2020 was due to take place last weekend.

Organisers were forced to cancel due to coronavirus and moved the celebration online , hosting a Digi-Pride, which was watched by more than 130,000 people.

The virtual event is raising funds for a number of LGBTQ charities in place of the physical celebration. Donations can be made on Birmingham Pride's GoFundMe page.
