Multiple sources have suggested that Sony will be holding a PlayStation 5 event on June 3rd.

“The virtual event could be held June 3, though some people also cautioned that plans have been in flux and that the date may change,” report Bloomberg. “Other PlayStation 5 events may follow in the coming weeks and months, and Sony is not expected to reveal every essential detail on the console during its first presentation,” say their sources who are “people with direct knowledge of the matter.”

Bloomberg is a well respected business publication so does not post gossip so they will be fairly sure of the sources. Venturebeat’s Jeff Grub has also confirmed the date from another source but warns not to expect the reveal of that all important price.

“The company seems aware of the backlash that Microsoft faced for its first Xbox 20/20 event,” he adds. “Fans were unhappy with the lack of gameplay at that presentation. In response, Sony wants to rely on PS5 games that are actually running on real hardware.”

Games for the new consoles are being announced regularly now, with Bungie confirming that it will be releasing Destiny 2 on PS5 and Xbox Series X. The news came via a Tweet the company posted in reply to the official Xbox account which had listed the developers that would be creating games for the Xbox Series X.

Recently the Unreal engine developer Epic suggested that the hardware will blow even the best PC gaming rigs out of the water thanks tot he ultra-fast SSD.

Epic CEO and founder Tim Sweeney was speaking on the Summer Game Fest stream and said “The hardware that Sony is launching is absolutely phenomenal. Not only an unprecedented amount of graphics power, but also a completely new storage architecture that blows past architectures out of the water and is far ahead of even the state-of-the-art, highest-end PCs you can buy.”
