Walt Disney World proposes phased reopening starting July 11
by Johari CantyLAKE BUENA VISTA, FLA. (WSVN) - Walt Disney World may soon be reopening to the public.
In a meeting with the Orange County Economic Recovery Task Force Wednesday, Senior Vice President of Operations Jim McPhee presented the resort’s proposed plan for reopening.
The first two parks to reopen would be Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom on July 11, with Epcot and Hollywood Studios following on July 15.
However, along with the opening, there will be some changes. Among the changes in the park will include:
- Required face coverings for guests and cast members
- More frequent handwashing stations and hand sanitizer stations
- Barriers facilitating social distancing
- Lowered capacity throughout the parks and restaurants
- Guests and cast members will also have their temperature checked
Character meet and greets and playgrounds will also be cancelled for the time being, along with parades, fireworks shows and other events that draw large crowds.
The plan was approved by Orange County Officials and is now headed to the governor for the final approval.
