Andrew Craigie claimed a random BMW driver stopped to give him a shot of driving his car. He later told police he took the cars from the same garage where he worked.

Craigie was jailed for 26 months yesterday at Dundee Sheriff Court after he admitted stealing cars and a series of driving offences. He was banned from driving for a year.

Depute fiscal Charmaine Gilmartin said Craigie stole an Audi from VG Autos, which had not been traced, and a Renault Captur which was found parked nearby.

She said he was then spotted driving a BMW 3 Series with no headlights and serious accident damage during the early hours of April 11.

Police activated their blue lights and followed him until he crashed into a parked car and ran off.

Craigie, 27, from Dundee, was caught nearby and admitted being heavily under the influence of Valium.

Craigie admitted stealing three cars after breaking into VG Autos on April 10 or 11 and driving while he only had a provisional licence.

He also admitted failing to stop for police, driving while he was unfit through drink or drugs and driving dangerously before crashing into a parked car.
