Edo 2020: Obaseki finally breaks silence, says APC's ticket not his priority

- Governor Godwin Obaseki has said that he is more concerned about the lives of Edo people

- Obaseki who was reacting to the direct primaries adopted for the APC governorship candidates in the state said he was not desperate to get the ticket

- The governor, however, noted that he would be reelected if it is the will of God

Less than one month to the governorship primaries of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo state, Governor Godwin Obaseki has declared that he was not desperate about his reelection for the second term in office.

Channels TV reports that the governor said the next gubernatorial election in the state was not a priority for him now.

Legit.ng gathered that Obaseki noted that he was more concerned about keeping the people of the state alive especially now that COVID-19 cases are rising.

He said: "The governorship election is not a priority for now. I don't think the election should lead to bloodshed. We have always canvassed for peace in Edo state. What are the issues that cannot be resolved under democracy?

"I am more concerned about keeping my people alive especially now that COVID-19 cases are rising. You have to be alive to talk about elections and take part in politics."

Governor Obaseki added that he was not desperate to get the party's ticket at all cost, adding that he worked for eight years behind the scene to develop Edo state before he became the governor.

"I don't want to get the party's ticket at all cost. I worked for eight years behind the scene to develop Edo state before I became the governor. I'm not a violent person and I'm confident of getting back," he said.

He said he was brought to power by God, stressing that nobody can stop his reelection if it is the will of God.

"Someone brought me into power. I know who gave me power. God is the one that gave me power. As far as God is alive, and wants me to return, no man can stop me. The way I came into power, that same way, I will return. Power belongs to God," he added.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had previously reported that as intrigues continue to play out in the politics of Edo ahead of the state gubernatorial election, two groups on Monday, May 18, staged a protest in support and against Adams Oshiomhle, APC chairman.

It was reported that the pro-Oshiomhole group, Edo State Coalition of Civil Society Organisations for Good Governance and Internal Democracy, was led by one Idiogbe Solomon.
