Sony’s first PS5 game reveal could be June 3rd
Rumors suggest Sony has a digital event planned for next week
by Tom WarrenSony is reportedly planning a PlayStation 5 game event for June 3rd. Bloomberg reports that Sony’s virtual event is tentatively planned for next week but that “plans have been in flux and that the day may change.” Sony is said to be focusing on games for this PS5 event and is not expected to “reveal every essential detail” on the console during the first event.
Further events are planned in the coming weeks and months, much like how rival Microsoft has been trickling out information about its Xbox Series X console in recent months.
Sony has so far unveiled PS5 specs, a logo, and a new wireless controller for its next-gen console. Sony has not yet shown off what the PlayStation 5 looks like, and it’s not clear if the company will do so at its rumored June 3rd event.
The PS5 will feature a custom eight-core AMD Zen 2 CPU clocked at 3.5GHz (variable frequency) and a custom GPU based on AMD’s RDNA 2 architecture hardware that promises 10.28 teraflops and 36 compute units clocked at 2.23GHz (also variable frequency).
A big part of Sony’s new PS5 is the impressive proprietary SSD, that provides 825GB of storage and 5.5GB/s of performance. Epic Games recently provided a stunning Unreal 5 tech demonstration running on the PS5, showing off the loading of cinematic 8K assets and dynamic lighting effects.
