Wife whose husband won 'more than £250K' on a scratch card reveals his brother and sister want the money to be split three ways - and is branded 'greedy' when she says they plan to keep the money for themselves

A woman revealed her husband is embroiled in an argument with his siblings because he refuses to share the money he won on a scratch card.

Posting anonymously on the British parenting site Mumsnet, the woman explained that shortly before lockdown her husband, his brother and his sister were each given a scratch card by their mother as a 'bit of fun' at a family gathering.

However 'to everyone's surprise' her husband ended up winning 'one of the biggest cash prizes'. She did not reveal the exact amount but said it was 'more than £250,000.'

His brother and sister want the money to be split 'evenly' three ways.

Asking whether her plan is 'unreasonable', the wife explained she and her husband plan to take the 'whole family' on holiday after lockdown but otherwise plan to keep the money for themselves.

Posting anonymously on the British parenting site Mumsnet, she said her husband has been made to feel guilty by his brother and sister after not sharing the money 'evenly'

The majority of users argued the poster was 'greedy' for wanting to keep the money to themselves.

One posted: 'I definitely would have shared this with the family that took part. No way would I have kept it all. Sorry.'

Another said: 'I’d share it. What’s the point in having lots of money if you can’t enjoy it with the people you’re closest too.

'If your DH had bought the card himself then he’d have no obligation to share, but he didn’t, his mother bought it and it will be heartbreaking for her to see her children falling out just because she tried to do a fun thing.'

A third added: 'If it was over £250k then I would absolutely share it with my family! I'd probably keep have for my family and share the remainder between family.'

Only a handful agreed with the poster that it was fine for her and her husband to keep the money for themselves.

One person wrote: 'Not at all! Why should you share it! My grandmother regularly does this and none of us would expect any of the others to share it should they get a winner! Tell them they need to grow up and get over it.'

Another supporter posted: 'It’s YOUR money. You shouldn’t feel bad about not wanting to give it away! I’d give them fuck all now as they’re being this way about it. If the family does end up splitting over it then it’s their doing, not yours.'
