Coronation Street's Jane Danson hints tragic Oliver ending 'could change Leanne'

by

Coronation Street star Jane Danson has said that her character Leanne will be ‘changed’ by her son Oliver’s health complications.

Leanne and Oliver father Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson) fear that their son will be diagnosed with mitochondrial disease.

The parents are left terrified as they hear Oliver may have sustained brain damage.

Oliver’s fight for life in hospital is set to reach a heartbreaking conclusion, one that could have massive implications for Leanne.

Speaking on Wednesday’s Loose Women, the actress said she initially feared her character may be written out as the storyline reached its climax.

Jane explained: ‘When you’re in a soap there’s always that fear hanging over you, but with this story I was worried in which direction it might and how Leanne might cope.

‘I was a little bit concerned, I do know the end game and I know this will change Leanne as a character but hopefully take her in a different direction in the future.’

The soap star has been keeping in touch with her co-stars on WhatsApp with everyone checking in on each other doing lockdown.

Jane said: ‘It’s really nice. We’re so used to seeing each other every day, we can keep in touch and see how everyone is coping.

‘Everyone has good and bad days. We’re a little Corrie family – I know everyone says that. We’re very much in touch and looking forward to going back when it’s safe.’
