Tyler, The Creator to return for Primavera 2021 as new dates announced

Tyler, The Creator and The Strokes will return to perform at Primavera next year, after this summer’s festival was cancelled due to coronavirus.

The Barcelona festival was one of many impacted by the global pandemic, and originally rescheduled their 20th anniversary event from June until August, only for it to later be called off altogether. 

However, the show must go on eventually, and the festival will celebrate its 20th anniversary in June 2021 instead – with many of the 2020 acts re-confirmed for next year

Tyler, The Creator, The Strokes, Pavement, Bad Bunny, Iggy Pop and Bikini Kill have signed up again to perform in Barcelona, with acts including Tame Impala, FKA twigs, Gorillaz, Jorja Smith, Jamie xx and Charli XCX among the 100 acts announced so far.  

Beck, The Jesus and Mary Chain, IDLES, Young Thug, Disclosure, Fontaines DC, The National, Caribou, Metronomy, Earl Sweatshirt, King Krule and Napalm Death are also joining the line-up. 

A statement from organisers read: ‘Whoever said that second chances are never good did not imagine that we would experience something like what is happening in 2020. 

‘With the whole world on pause due to the evolution of this global pandemic and with the live music sector holding its breath facing a summer without festivals, we can only look forward: towards 2021, specifically, the year in which we are going to recover everything that will be pending from 2020.

‘It will still be a party. Let that be clear. Although the premise is the celebration of the 20th anniversary of Primavera Sound, it is obvious that the 2021 edition will be something more. Much more.’

The new dates for Primavera Sound are 2-6 June 2021, and tickets for the 2020 festival remain valid for next year. 

Tickets go on sale at noon on 3 June for €165 (£147), with exchanges and refunds for 2020 tickets also starting on this day. 

Most of this year’s festivals have been cancelled or postponed due to the pandemic, including Glastonbury, Reading and Leeds, Tomorrowland and Burning Man.
