Mum makes beach in back garden for family who can't go on holiday

by

While we can’t go on our summer holidays due to obvious reasons, we’ve been truly blessed with the weather in recent weeks – and this warm snap is set to continue.

One mum was (understandably) sad about the fact she and her family couldn’t head off somewhat sunny, so instead decided to bring the holiday to them with this garden beach.

The ingenious mum posted her backyard beach on the Facebook group Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK, and the reaction has been overwhelmingly positive.

The woman’s post read: ‘Lock down project, could go on holiday, kids were gutted they weren’t gonna get to go on the beach, so brought the beach to us.’

The sandy area was created by flattening out the area with MDF and laying some tarpaulin over the top. Sand was then tipped over the top.

Make sure if you’re recreating this to get play sand rather than horticultural or building sand, as this can be harsh on the skin. You can grab this for under £5 for a 25kg bag from Wickes.

A tropical backdrop makes it complete (Picture: Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK)

The tropical backdrop to set the tone for the ‘beach’ was purchased by the woman on eBay, and she bought some blow-up palm trees from Amazon.

Given how temperamental British weather is, she also bought a cover for the large sandpit online, and can stick that over the top when it rains or in the night so it doesn’t get wet and dirty.

Her kids are big fans of their new home holiday area, with the poster saying: ‘They’re  in it every day I’ve even had a go put some wave sound on my phone and closed my eyes.’

Her post has now racked up over 2,300 likes on the group, with commenters saying how much they’d love to do the same.

One said that the garden was ‘a little piece of tropical paradise’ while another wrote ‘Lucky kids! Looks amazing!’

We certainly agree. A little pina colada in there would be the perfect treat.
