In the piece, the publication claimed that Kate has felt overwhelmed with royal work and betrayed by the Sussexes since their stepping down; the piece even referenced a supposed argument between Duchesses Kate and Meghan during the Sussexes' 2018 wedding.

"This story contains a swathe of inaccuracies and false misrepresentations which were not put to Kensington Palace prior to publication," read a statement from Kensington Palace regarding the merit of the cover story.

Tatler's editor in chief is defending the story's publication, however, claiming that Kensington Palace was, in fact, aware of the pending feature.

"Tatler's editor-in-chief Richard Dennen stands behind the reporting of Anna Pasternak and her sources. Kensington Palace knew we were running the 'Catherine the Great' cover months ago and we asked them to work together on it. The fact they are denying they ever knew is categorically false," Richard Dennen tells BAZAAR.com in a statement.

A royal source told BAZAAR on Tuesday that Kensington Palace did not know about the article until yesterday morning.

Kensington Palace is not expected to make further comments regarding the story. The Duchess of Cambridge is currently working from her Anmer Hall estate with Prince William amid the ongoing coronavirus crisis while also taking care of their three children.
