Kilifi businessman James Muchemi Munene on Wednesday, May 27, called on Deputy President William Ruto to clear an alleged debt owed by a hotel associated with DP Ruto.

Speaking to journalists, Muchemi begged the DP to repay the Ksh 1,431, 995 debt, which he said he was owed since August 2018 by Dolphin Hotel in Mombasa.

"Some of our contracts were terminated but there are other suppliers who are still working on the project and I hear they are being paid in cash. So I don't see why we cannot be paid," he narrated.

He disclosed that he supplied marine boards and wood to the hotel, insisting that at the time it was difficult for anyone to get wood due to the ban of logging in all public and community forests.

Additionally, he stated that he had acquired a loan from the bank that he expected to repay once he got his payment.

"I want the DP to help me because I have tried to contact Jubilee Party Coast Region Coordinator Farid Swaleh with no success.

"I contacted Farid, who I was told would help me with the payment but as soon as he learned that it was the payment I needed, he stopped picking up my call or replying to my messages," Muchemi narrated.

He added that the Covid-19 pandemic had escalated his woes since business had reduced significantly.

"I pray that the DP will listen to our plea so that we can continue with our normal lives and we can revive our businesses," Muchemi added.

The Covid-19 pandemic has led to losses in various sectors of the economy including; agriculture, manufacturing, tourism and financial services.
