Brewdog launches cheekily-named Barnard Castle Eye Test beer

The beer is available to pre-order now after a public vote

Brewdog has launched a new beer named after Dominic Cummings' ill-fated trip to Barnard Castle.

The beer maker has launched Barnard Castle Eye Test beer and plans to donate all proceeds to production of hand sanitizer to NHS charities.

The controversial beer came about after a public vote to name the beer including options such as Cummings and Goings, 260 miles, Stay At Homes and the eventual winner, Barnard Castle Eye Test.

The 'hazy' beer is now available to pre-order as a limited edition on the Brewdog website.

The name comes from government advisor Cummings' trip to Durham with his wife and child during the UK's lockdown restrictions. He has been criticised for a trip to Barnard Castle, a 60-mile trip, after he suggested it was to test his eyesight after suffering from Covid-19.

The beer's description says: "Short sighted beer for tall stories. Our New England, Old School IPA is locked down and loaded.

"Dry-hopped for a juicy hit with pineapple, mango and hint of zesty lime."

Those who pre-order will be able to buy 12 of the 330ml cans within two weeks.

Last week Brewdog teamed up with a savings website to offer £15 of free beer to anybody who spends £30 or more on the site.

New members who sign up to Topcashback here can get £15 off any order of beer over the price of £30 on the Brewdog website and that includes beer bundles featuring some of the brand's most popular beers.

For example, the 24-can variety pack featuring Punk IPA, Dead Pony Club, Lost Lager, Hazy Jane and more is priced at just over £30. Using the deal you can get it delivered for just £15 in time for the weekend.
