11 years for man for drugging and sexually assaulting two boys
by Ian BrennanA 29-year-old man has been handed a jail sentence of 11 years after drugging and sexually assaulting two boys.
The judge said that the child rapist had used his membership to a voluntary paramedic organisation to target the two boys.
In one attack, the man placed an oxygen mask over one of the boys and forced him to inhale a pain relief drug to make him pass out before sexually assaulting him.
A second attack saw the man rape the unconscious body of a boy while another man filmed it on his phone.
The man, who must remain anonymous to protect the identities of the victims, pleased guilty in the Central Criminal Court to oral rape of one boy and to sexual assault and exploitation of another.
Both attacks took place in May 2018, and the man also admitted to stealing items, including a vial of Penthrox and a carbon dioxide chamber from Naas race course on an unknown date in 2018.
Penthrox is an analgesic used by medical practitioners to administer pain relief in the case of emergencies.
It is administered by attaching a vial of the liquid drug to a pipe-like device called a green whistle, which is then used to inhale the drug.
Mr Justice Paul McDermott had adjourned the case on Monday after hearing the details of the offending.
On Wednesday, he issued an 11-year prison sentence with 18 months suspended, saying the attacks were planned out in a predatory way using his membership to a voluntary paramedic service to build up trust.
