Teenage boy stabbed in the street - a man has been arrested

Police have arrested a 'male' after the 16-year-old was knifed in Prestwich

A teenage boy was stabbed in Prestwich.

The 16-year-old was knifed near Polefield Grange, off Bury Old Road, at about 11pm on Saturday (May 23).

Police say he is in a 'stable' condition in hospital.

An investigation has been launched.

A man has been arrested and bailed. Police have not said which crime the man is suspected of committing.

The attack is believed to have been an 'isolated incident'. Bosses have stepped up patrols to reassure residents.

Officers manning the GMP Bury South Facebook page posted about the incident.

A post read: "On the evening 23rd of May 2020 an incident occurred in the vicinity of Bury Old Road / Heywood Road in Prestwich.

"A 16 y/o was taken to hospital after suffering a knife injury and is currently stable in Hospital.

"This is currently under investigation and an male was arrested and is currently on bail.

"It is believed that this is an isolated incident and police patrols have been and will remain in the area for reassurance."

A spokesperson for the North West Ambulance Service added: "We were called to Polefield Grange shortly after 11pm on Saturday.

"We sent an ambulance and two rapid response vehicles. Police were on scene.

"We took a patient to hospital."
