Dairy remains ‘resilient’ due to business model
JERSEY’S dairy industry is ready to bounce back after the Covid-19 crisis and continues to be ‘resilient’ due to its mix of local and export markets, an industry spokesman has said.
by Ian HeathThis month marks a decade since Jersey Dairy’s move from its former home at Five Oaks to a new site neighbouring the Royal Jersey Showground in Trinity.
Andrew Le Galllais, chairman of the organisation, said that the industry had weathered the storm of the coronavirus pandemic and was ready for the economic recovery.
‘Covid-19 certainly hasn’t stopped us and we are ready for the upturn when it comes,’ he said.
‘We remain a very sustainable industry because we have not focused totally on the local market. We have a strong market resilience in the Island and the ability to have an export business allows us to keep the price just right.
‘That is good news for the local consumer who will always be number one to us.’
More than 100 million litres of milk have been processed in the Island since the dairy moved to its Trinity headquarters in 2010.
