East Kilbride Thistle boss: "Use us as a platform to boost your career"

Iain Diack hopes the Jags' open door policy will help them find quality players looking to get back into the game

Iain Diack hopes players can use East Kilbride Thistle as a platform to boost their careers when football returns from the Covid-19 shutdown.

The Jags gaffer announced last week he would open up the Showpark for trials and he revealed he’s already had plenty of players come forward looking for an opportunity.

And he hopes to unearth talent that can help both parties.

Diack said: “I’ve had messages from eight or nine players who have asked for an opportunity and we are more than happy to give them that.

“Hopefully players use us as well as a platform to move forward.

Returning East Kilbride Thistle favourite can't wait to get to work under Iain Diack

“Everybody wins at the end of the day in that case. If we get better players out of it, then great.

“If we can move players on to help them progress in their career at a higher level and we recoup a wee fee for them, that’s great as well.

“That would be brilliant for the club and you then you would get a reputation for developing players.

“Off the back of that, you could end up with better players who’ve had a wee knock in the game and are looking to get back in. They might be thinking EK Thistle helped a guy I know get to where they want to be, so I’m going to give them a go.”

Diack is also actively looking to recruit players and admits he has already targeted four new players for the West of Scotland Conference C campaign.

He added: “We’ve been speaking to three or four players that I’m looking to bring in.

“No-one has been signed yet, but we have offered for them to come in for pre-season, have a look at the coaching and see where the club is going.

“If everybody is happy, we will move forward that way.

“The club is moving in the right direction with work being done on the pitch and the dressing rooms, so hopefully players see that and it makes people want to come.”
