COVID 19: Portugal Update, 27 May
Portugal registered today a total of 1,356 covid-19-related deaths, 14 more than on Tuesday, and 31,292 infected, 285 more, according to the epidemiological bulletin released by the Directorate-General for Health.
In comparison with Tuesday's data, which recorded 1,342 deaths, today there was an increase in deaths of 1 percent.
Regarding the number of confirmed cases of infection with the new coronavirus (31,292), data from the Directorate-General for Health (DGS) show that there are 285 more cases than on Tuesday (31,007), representing an increase of 0.9 percent.
The North region is the one with the highest number of deaths (755), followed by the region of Lisbon and the Tagus Valley (335), the Centre (235), the Algarve (15), the Azores (15) and the Alentejo, which registers a death, advances the report of the epidemiological situation, with data updated until 24:00 on Tuesday, keeping the Autonomous Region of Madeira without registering deaths.
According to data from the Directorate-General for Health, 692 fatalities are women and 664 are men.
Of the registered deaths, 912 were over 80 years old, 265 were between 70 and 79 years old, 121 were between 60 and 69 years old, 42 between 50 and 59, 15 between 40 and 49, and one of the patients was between 20 and 29 years.
The clinical characterisation of confirmed cases indicates that 510 patients are admitted to hospitals, three less than on Tuesday (-0.6 percent), and 66 71 are in Intensive Care Units, minus five (-7.1 percent).
There are 11,077 people recovering at home.
DGS data indicate that the municipality of Lisbon is the one with the highest number of cases of infection by the new coronavirus (2,254, followed by Vila Nova de Gaia (1,553), Porto (1,349), Matosinhos (1,275), Braga (1,213) and Gondomar (1,079).
Since 1 January, 316,364 suspected cases have been registered, of which 1,886 are awaiting test results.
There are 283,186 cases in which the test results were negative, says DGS, adding that the number of recovered patients rose to 18,349 (253 more).
The North region continues to register the highest number of infections, totalling 16,703, followed by the region of Lisbon and the Tagus Valley, with 10,055, the Centre region, with 3,690, the Algarve (363) and Alentejo (256).
The Azores recorded 135 cases of covid-19 and Madeira recorded 90 confirmed cases, according to the bulletin released today.
DGS also records 27,141 surveillance contacts by health authorities.
Of the total infected, 18,036 are women and 13,256 are men.
The age group most affected by the disease is from 40 to 49 years old (5,265), followed by the age group from 50 to 59 years old (5,212) and people over 80 years old (4,460).
There are still 4,679 patients between the ages of 30 and 39, 4,049 between the ages of 20 and 29, 3,463 between the ages of 60 and 69 and 2,520 between the ages of 70 and 79.
DGS also records 607 cases of children up to nine years old and 1,037 young people aged 10 to 19 years.
According to DGS, 40 percent of patients positive for the new coronavirus have cough symptoms, 29 percent fever, 21 percent muscle pain, 20 percent headache, 15 percent general weakness and 12 percent breathing difficulty. This information refers to 91 percent of confirmed cases.
The covid-19 pandemic has already caused at least 350,608 people and infected more than 5.6 million worldwide.
More than 2.2 million patients were considered cured by health authorities.
