Manchester United star to commit his future to shock South American club
by Jyotirmoy HalderAccording to the recent reports, Manchester United’s star defender wants to commit his future to his boyhood club in Argentina.
Manchester United and Sporting CP have shared a deep-rooted relationship in the transfer market. From Nani to Bruno Fernandes, United have signed some terrific talents over the years from the capital of Portugal.
There is hardly anyone not aware of the name of Cristiano Ronaldo. United had to pay only £12.24m to acquire his services from Sporting CP. And now, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner is one of the best players United have ever had in their squad.
While some made their names even bigger after arriving at Manchester from Lisbon, there is not many but one who has massively failed to fulfil his potential ever since joining United from the prestigious Portuguese club.
Marcos Rojo, 30, joined the Mancunian club in 2014 for a reported transfer fee of €20 million (£16 million). Back then, Dutchman Louis van Gaal was at the helm of Manchester United.
Despite promising something big to the fans of Stretford End during his early days at Old Trafford, Marcos Rojo has never had showcased that extra edge it needs to become a Manchester United defender.
An ACL injury back in the season of 2017-28 saw him miss 28 games for Man United. The ACL injury was the start of Rojo’s fall from grace at the Red side of Manchester.

Another injury in 2018-19 season saw him being sidelined for 74 days. Before the club decided to send him out on a six-month loan-spell to his homeland club Estudiantes last January, Rojo had made only 12 appearances under the management of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
And it starts looking as the club’s search for a new centre-back in the upcoming summer transfer window is a notion of Rojo’s departure from Manchester United.
According to the report from Argentine outlet TNT Sports, Marcos Rojo has also shown immense interest in making his loan-deal permanent at Estudiantes, knowing that the United are ready to offload him in the summer transfer window.
Estudiantes manager Leandro Desabato has also revealed his intention to keep Rojo at Estudiantes on the permanent basis, saying:
“I called Marcos Rojo and he told me that his intention is to stay at Estudiantes, he wants to remain here. He also told me that it’s key to see what Manchester United say.”
A report from Mail Sport suggests that Argentine champions Boca Juniors have been keeping tabs on Rojo’s situation, with the club targeting to make a £12 million move for the defender.
Rojo had made only one start for the Argentine side Estudiantes, prior to the suspension of football owing to coronavirus outbreak.
Do you think Rojo should make his loan-deal permanent at Estudiantes?
