America's Got Talent host Terry Crews picks first Golden Buzzer act
by Nola OjomuTerry Crews could not stop the tears over his Golden Buzzer act on America’s Got Talent.
The hit talent competition show returned to NBC for the season 15 premiere on Tuesday night (May 26) and Voices of Our City was one of the standout acts.
The choir is made up entirely of homeless and formerly homeless singers from around San Francisco, many who have been financially helped by the choir itself.
After performing an original song that created together – which included a spoken word portion by one of the older members – they got a lot of love and praise from the judges and the audience.
But Terry was so taken by the performance that he gave out the first Golden Buzzer of the season as he said: ‘What they did today has moved me to this point right now.’
Speaking to People, Terry admitted: ‘It was so inspirational, I was in tears. I can’t help but cry. I don’t want to cry, I tell myself don’t cry.’
The Brooklyn Nine-Nine actor recalled his ‘tears falling down’ and feeling ‘inspired through the roof’ after performed.
Meanwhile, the episode also featured impressive acts including wrongly imprisoned singer Archie Williams, social media star Vincent Marcus and twin performers Double Dragon.
Now Terry’s Golden Buzzer act has advanced to the live shows, which are usually filmed in August.
However, the coronavirus pandemic has shut down production on AGT, and the schedule for resuming the live shows remains up in the air.
But Simon Cowell is determined to go on with the show in whichever way he can.
‘We’ve worked out about three different scenarios for how we can shoot the live shows with or without an audience, or a limited audience,’ he told People.
‘The most important thing is that we have to ensure that since people have auditioned, that they do get the chance safely to be able to compete as they normally do, and get that chance to win a million dollars, or at least appear in the final.’
Ultimately, Cowell says ‘we hope to get back to normal relatively quickly.’
America’s Got Talent airs on NBC in the US and airs on Netflix in the UK.
