KAMPALA - The Retired Major General Kasirye Ggwanga’s health situation has deteriorated and is now in the Intensive Care Unit at Nakasero Hospital.

According to the Kasirye’s relative who preferred anonymity, his condition worsened on May 25.

Kasirye was admitted to Nakasero hospital on May 18 and underwent a successful operation the following day after doctors discovered a blood clot in one of the vessels in his head.

He has been in ICU since Monday and only a few family members can access him.

Kasirye was first rushed to Mbuya Military Barracks after getting a headache, where he received initial treatment before being referred to Nakasero hospital.

What worries family members more is the fact that the health situation has not changed for the last two days.

When Brig. Richard Karemire the spokesperson of UPDF was contacted for a comment, he responded, “I am not a doctor to know the health situation of a general.”

The outspoken general has been ill for some time.  On April 7, Brig. Karemire told the public that the general was being given medical care at Mbuya Military Hospital Senior Officers’ Diagnostic Centre.

In 2016, Kasirye suffered lung-related complications and was admitted at IHK Namuwongo.

By the time he fell sick, he had launched a campaign to save forests in central Uganda. He would not allow anybody to cut trees from forests in the region. He would shoot at the tyres of the Lorries that he would find carrying logs. He had stationed himself at Nkene village, Maanyi Sub-county, where he has a farm.

Last month Kasirye Ggwanga mounted controversial operations, targeting people who he said were defying the presidential guidelines on COVID-19. Many people accused him of clobbering people in Mityana during the operations.
