Today, AdDuplex published its monthly report on Windows 10 and Surface usage. The data is based on the over 5,000 Microsoft Store apps that use the AdDuplex SDK v.2 or higher, and it was collected on May 26. Also, the report says that almost 90,000 Windows 10 PCs were surveyed, an interesting statistic because it doesn't often say just how many devices were using apps that use the SDK. It provides a little more context for the report though, as we can now see how big the sample size is compared to the billion Windows 10 devices.

Not much has changed since last month's report. Usage of the latest version of the OS is up to 36.4% from 33.4%, while version 1903 usage dropped by only 1%. Version 1809 also dropped by exactly one point, and 1803 is down to 3.5% from 4.2%. The rest are mostly stagnant, with version 1709 falling from 1.2% to 1.1%, older versions declining from 1.9% to 1.7%, and Insiders increasing a bit from 0.8% to 0.9%.

With Windows 10 version 2004 right around the corner, it's clear that adoption of version 1909 hasn't been as quick as previous versions. The main reason for this is because Microsoft doesn't force upgrades on people anymore, unless the version you're on is nearing the end of support. All feature updates are optional now.

AdDuplex doesn't do Surface usage reports every month, and the last one was from January. The Surface Pro 4 has been at the top for a long time now, although the original Surface Go has overtaken the 2017 Surface Pro for the number two spot. Also, the Surface Book 2 has moved ahead of the Surface 3, possibly meaning that Surface 3 users are switching to the newer Surface Go. Also, the Surface Go 2 and Book 3 have made their debuts on the list.
