UK will be 'virtually back to normal by August or sooner,' ex-WHO expert predicts
by Danya Bazaraa, https://www.mirror.co.uk/authors/danya-bazaraa/The UK will be "virtually back to normal" by August if not even sooner, a former WHO expert believes.
Professor Karol Sikora, Ex-director of the WHO Cancer Programme, said we should still prepare for the worst but hope for the best.
He said more can be done and we need to talk about how to move the process out of lockdown as safely as possible.
He also hit out at the Government, saying they are pleading for us to show common sense but "it has to work both ways".
Today Professor Sikora tweeted: "Some laughed at my prediction at the end of March that we would start edging back to normality around the second week in May - it was right!
"I think by August things will be virtually back to normal, perhaps sooner.
"We should still prepare for the worst, but hope for the best!"
He later added: "It makes no sense that I can soon meet my family in a car showroom or a garden centre, but us sitting apart in the garden is banned.
"That has no scientific or logical basis.
"The Government are pleading with us to show some common sense - it needs to work both ways."
Another tweet by the professor today read: "We have to get back to what is important - safely getting out of lockdown.
"Schools are restarting, shops reopening.
"We need to talk about how we move this process forwards as safely as possible.
"More can be done, but we need to talk about it!"
His comments today followed a tweet yesterday which called for a more detailed exit plan to be publicly available.
"I would love to see a detailed timetable for our exit plan, it's all been a bit wishy-washy so far," he wrote.
"Let's take smaller, but more frequent steps and see it all laid out in a plan.
"It can change, we all understand that. But June is the month to get the country motoring."
