Woman rescued from River Clyde after car crashed into water at Renfrew ferry terminal
by David IrvineA WOMAN has been rescued after her car crashed into the River Clyde.
The incident at the Renfrew ferry terminal just after 1pm prompted an emergency response with police, ambulance and fire crews in attendance.
Scottish Fire and Rescue confirmed crews attended the police incident where a vehicle was in the water.
A 52-year-old woman was rescued from the vehicle and is being checked by paramedics at the scene.
Support units including a marine team are currently at the scene whilst the car is being removed.
A tweet from the Renfrew Ferry account read: "Hi folks our apologies the ferry is off for a while we have had a major incident."
Enquiries into the incident are ongoing with officers trying to establish the full circumstances.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: ""Shortly before 1pm, police received a report of a car in the River Clyde, close to the Renfrew ferry crossing.
"A 52-year-old woman was rescued from the vehicle by members of the public and is being checked over by paramedics at the scene.
"Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances. Support units including the marine unit are in attendance whilst the car is recovered.
"The ferry terminal is likely to be closed as a result."
