Report: David Luiz could leave Arsenal next month

by

Sky Sports have claimed that David Luiz could leave Arsenal in just over a month’s time after it was learned the defender only joined the Gunners last summer on an initial 12-month contract.

Luiz, who turned 33 in April, joined Arsenal from Chelsea last summer after plummeting down the pecking order under Frank Lampard following the Blues legend’s arrival at Stamford Bridge. It was believed he had signed a two-year deal at Arsenal.

The Brazil international has clocked up 32 appearances in all competitions for Arsenal since Unai Emery brought him to the north London club little under 12 months ago. But he has been heavily criticised for his performances in an Arsenal shirt.

Now, Sky Sports claim what was believed to be a two-year deal was in fact only an initial one-year contract. With no agreement yet to be made on an extension, the former PSG defender could leave the club on June 30.

TBR’s view – Arsenal need to let Luiz leave

Calum Chambers posted a message to Gunners fans on Instagram this week, stating he is edging closer to a return from a knee injury. William Saliba is also set to return from his loan at St. Etienne, while Pablo Mari could sign permanently.

Arsenal need a big shake-up at centre-back. That should see Luiz depart and if it means he exits for nothing in just over a month, then so be it – and he should not be the only central defender to leave Arsenal this summer.
